--I just learned from Laughable Loves’ blog that Kittiphol Sarakkhanon, who used to be one of my most favorite Thai film critics, has released a new book of his short stories called TEE EUN (OTHER PLACES). The book is 95 baht and can be purchased from CU Bookstore.

The book is published by Shine Publishing House. Its e-mail is shinepubhouse@yahoo.com .

Some trivia about Kittiphol Sarakkhanon

1.I always feel grateful for him, because when I went to see a German film called LUDWIG – REQUIEM FOR A VIRGIN KING (1972, Hans-Juergen Syberberg, A+), I didn’t understand many things in the film. But Kittiphol helped clarifying many things in this film for me. He has some knowledge about German history and some German famous people in the past. This knowledge is always useful when you see a film by Hans-Juergen Syberberg. I agree with him that in a way Syberberg’s films are more difficult than Jean-Luc Godard’s.

2.Kittiphol used to work in the production team of a film called PIPOP BUNTOON พิภพบรรฑูรย์ (2001, Utis Hemamul, 25 min, A+). Utis is also a film critic and a fiction writer.

3.Kittiphol wrote a great review of THE BIRTH OF LOVE (Philippe Garrel, A+) a few years ago to publish in a now-defunct website. I love this review very very very much.

4.Kittiphol wrote at least three great film articles in THAI FILM QUATERLY magazine.

4.1 In THAI FILM QUATERLY Volume 9, Jan-Mar 2001, he wrote an article about the comparison between BLOW UP (Michelangelo Antonioni), BLOW OUT (Brian de Palma), THE CONVERSATION (Francis Ford Coppola), and THE TERRORIZER (Edward Yang).

4.2 In THAI FILM QUATERLY Volume 10, he wrote an article about film and reality. The article talks about many things, including Jean Vigo, Henri Bergson, Dziga Vertov, Jean Rouch, and Paul Virilio.

4.3 In THAI FILM QUATERLY, Volume 11, he wrote an article about the films THE CRUELTY AND THE SOY-SAUCE MAN (Paisit Panprugschart), MYSTERIOUS OBJECT AT NOON (Apichatpong Weerasethakul), and EVERYTHING WILL FLOW (2000, Punlop Horharin).
