KALYI (1993, FRED KELEMEN, A++++++++++)

FILMS SEEN ON 4-6 NOVEMBER 2007

IN PREFERENTIAL ORDER

1.KALYI – AGE OF DARKNESS (1993, Fred Kelemen, 75 min, A+++++++++++)

I saw this film at the Goethe Institute. This expressionist film is surely one of my most favorite films of this year. It’s as surrealistically sublime as INAUGURATION OF THE PLEASURE DOME (1954, Kenneth Anger) and THE GRANDMOTHER (1970, David Lynch). And the beautiful voiceovers in this film remind me of Marguerite Duras.

2.FATE (1994, Fred Kelemen, 80 min, A++++++++++)
I saw this film at the Goethe Institute.

5.ALICE (2005, Marco Martins, Portugal, A+++++)

6.4 MONTHS, 3 WEEKS, AND 2 DAYS (2007, Cristian Mungiu, Romania, A+)

7.CAPTIVITY (2007, Roland Joffe, A+)
Larry Cohen wrote the screenplay of this film.

--I also saw MUANG NAI MORK (1978, Permpol Choei-arun, A+) for the third time from a DVD of Filmsick.

--I think on Wednesday the Thammasat University’s library will show FROST (1997, Fred Kelemen, 200 min).
