I enjoy reading this very much, especially your imagination about what these directors would be if they are house guests.

As for Schlondorff’s DVDs, I strongly recommend YOUNG TORLESS (1966), which is adapted from a novel by Robert Musil, and THE NINTH DAY (2004), which is about a moral dilemma of a Catholic priest during the Nazi era. THE NINTH DAY is like a companion piece to AMEN (2002, Costa-Gavras), but I find THE NINTH DAY more thought-provoking, more philosophical, and less dramatic than AMEN, thus THE NINTH DAY is the one that leaves a more long-lasting impression.
