--I'm glad THE BANGKOK BOURGEOIS PARTY is the winner. This film uses darkness in a unique way. The darkness in this film still creates a lot of fear in my mind now. It represents the time and the place in which I am living, and I don't know if I will survive it or not.

--There's a recent film which I think presents darkness very beautifully. It's THE WOLFMAN (2010, Joe Johnston, A+), which is very atmospheric. The cinematographer of this film is Shelly Johnson. The dark forest in THE WOLFMAN is so beautiful that I think it is not too far removed from the gorgeous dark forest in A LAKE.

--I think UPRISE (2008, Sandro Aguilar, Portugal, A+++++) also uses darkness in a very beautiful way. Its cinematographer is Paulo Ares.

--Another photographer who knows how to use darkness is Bill Henson.
