Desirable Actor: Teerapat Lohanun – MY BROMANCE (2014, Nitchapoom Chaianun, A+/A)

SPOILERS ALERT

I gave A- to the first act or the first part of MY BROMANCE, because it is unintentionally funny. I couldn’t stop laughing. I think the direction of the film is a little bit awkward in the first part of the film.

I gave A+30 to the second act or the middle part of the film. It is a real guilty pleasure for me. It may be full of flaws or many things I don’t like. But it totally fulfills my sexual fantasy. The film knows very well my sexual desires. The film knows very well what I used to dream of when I was a child. Despite all its flaws, the second act of MY BROMANCE seems to achieve the main purpose of the film—fulfilling the sexual fantasy of a specific group of viewers, like what some good genre films or some good exploitation films do. Yes, the film may be bad, but it understands me and my sexual fantasy very well, so I gave A+30 to this second act.

I gave F to the third act or the last part of the film. I don’t like this part at all. It is a total disaster in my point of view.

Anyway, I have my own imagination to rely on. So after watching MY BROMANCE, I started imagining another film adapted from MY BROMANCE. In my own version of MY BROMANCE, the second act would be lengthened. The third act would be totally changed. The story in the third act would be adapted from the lyrics of the song I’M STILL WAITING by Diana Ross and the film A WINTER’S TALE (1991, Eric Rohmer, A+30). It will be about the little brother who still keeps loving his big brother though many years have passed.

MY BROMANCE is not a good film, but the fact is that after watching this film, when I lay down on my bed at night, sometimes I think about myself 30 years ago. Sometimes I think about my own version of MY BROMANCE. And if you have seen A WINTER’S TALE, you will understand my imagination and how my imaginary film ends. :-)

I remember when
I was five and you were ten, boy
You knew that I was shy
So you teased and made me cry
But I loved you

Then one day you came
You told me you were leaving
You gave your folks the blame
And made me cry again
When you said

Little girl
Please don't wait for me
Wait patiently for love
Someday will surely come
Ooh, little girl
Please don't wait for me
Wait patiently for love
Someday will surely come
And I'm still waiting

I'm waiting
Ooh, still waiting
I'm just a fool
Ooh, I'm a fool
To keep waiting

Then someone finally came
He told me that he loved me
I put him off with lies
He could see I had no eyes
So he left me once again alone
Like a child without her playmate
I had to face the truth
I was still in love with you
But you said:

Little girl
Please don't wait for me
Wait patiently for love
Someday will surely come
Ooh, little girl
Please don't wait for me
Wait patiently for love
Someday will surely come
And I'm still waiting

Love has never shown his face
Since the day you walked out that door
You filled my life with empty space
Come back
Can't you see it's you I'm waiting for

Don't you know I'm waiting
I'm waiting for love
For you, I miss you
I'm waiting
Come on back, boy
I need you
I want you
That's what my friends says
