BISFF 2014: OUTSTANDING THAI SHOWCASE

BANGKOK INTERNATIONAL STUDENT FILM FESTIVAL 2014

OUTSTANDING THAI STUDENT SHOWCASE

(in alphabetical order)

1.AB ABB OOPS (Kamonphan Siangphor, Burapha, gay film, A-)

2.CAPTAIN (Ravipon Pumruerng, Thanyaburi, B)

3.MELODY OF THE FOREST (Cherdsak Samaklan, Bansomdej Chaopraya)

4.A MILLION MINDS (Chris Roberts, Mahidol, A)

This film should be screened together with THE PEACOCK DREAM (2012, Krit Kittikornrat, A+).

5.RED CHAIR (Nawin Thawong, Suan Sunandha, B+ )

I don’t understand this film. Maybe I will change my mind about my fondness for this film in the future.

6.SIN (กรรม) (Naethithorn Noosaeng, Chiang Mai, B+ )

7.SHE IS MY BEST FRIEND (Jirassaya Wongsutin, Chula, seen before)

8.SLEEPLESS (หากว่าเราได้รักกัน) (Arrada Siritanya, Silpakorn, A+)

I want to screen this film together with A SOAP (2006, Pernille Fischer Christensen), LAURENCE ANYWAYS (2012, Xavier Dolan), and RETIREMENT (Lucy Campbell).

9.THEY SAID THAT (Thanamas Taloengsuk, Chula)

10.TOGETHER ON THE MOON (Taweeporn Viboonjan, Ladkrabang, animation, A-)

The drawing is lovely, but I can’t follow the story.

11.VIEN (เวียน) (Methasit Ue-areekul, Assumption, B+ )

I like stories about bitchy female characters, like SORORITY ROW (2009, Stuart Hendler, A+), but VIEN is lame. In fact, some parts in VIEN have the potential to be something great like LES DIABOLIQUES (1954, Henri-Georges Clouzot), such as the question whether the corpse in the water really exists or not, but it turns out that there seems to be nothing interesting in this story at all.

For stories about bitchy female universtiy students like this, the director who excels at it is Janenarong Sirimaha. His films have a lot more creative ideas than this one.

12.WATCH (Nuttacha Khajornkaitsakul, Chula, A+)
